Up Close F4U Corsair Startup

That’s A Startup!

Now that’s a startup! Today we bring you a video we found on TikTok from the account gandytiktokhangar and it’s a doozy. There’s nothing like a good ‘ol Corsair startup but even better when it’s this close!

Arguably the best WWII plane, at least in the Pacific Theatre, the F4U Corsair is a Warbird Fanatic favorite and it’s always a treat to be able to see and hear one startup and take off and thanks to the internet, we get to see that often. It was a carrier-based aircraft and became one of the most iconic of the entire war.

It’s just a plane that sounds so beastly with its radial Pratt and Whitney engine. There is literally nothing like it!

The Vought F4U Corsair was designed and operated as a carrier-based aircraft, and entered service in large numbers with the U.S. Navy in late 1944 and early 1945. It quickly became one of the most capable carrier-based fighter-bombers of World War II. Some Japanese pilots regarded it as the most formidable American fighter of World War II and its naval aviators achieved an 11:1 kill ratio. Early problems with carrier landings and logistics led to it being eclipsed as the dominant carrier-based fighter by the Grumman F6F Hellcat, powered by the same Double Wasp engine first flown on the Corsair’s initial prototype in 1940  Instead, the Corsair’s early deployment was to land-based squadrons of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy. #warbird #warbirds #wwii #worldwar2 #vintage #usnavy #usmc #tiktok #usa
