During the Korean War, Chosin Reservoir Campaign was considered as the most important battle. The US Marine troops were engaged in battle and already running out of ammunition. They put out a call for “Tootsie Rolls”, which was their code for 60mm mortar rounds.
When the supplies were airdropped to them, they found boxes filled with thousands of actual Tootsie Rolls – yes, the candy. They were shocked, but as it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise.
